Tylr Mobile was founded on the idea that people should be able to get more work done on the go. Our platform enables this through applications that are easily configured to the specific needs of individual companies. The key question when we founded the company was how to take this platform to market - what should our first application be?
We focused on salespeople first, given that this role feels the pain of mobile work more than most. We then observed dozens of salespeople working on the go and talked to them about their jobs - particularly the time they spend away from their desk. These visits confirmed what we believed to be true - that salespeople spend most of their mobile work time doing email and that email is a terrible place to get work done. It is common for a salesperson to have to apologize and promise to reply to messages when they are back at their desk. This is frustrating for all involved, the salesperson, the customer and the sales manager.
We boiled the problem of mobile email for salespeople into 3 areas:
